new to yoga?

You only have to have a willingness to have a go at something “new”!

You don’t have to be “flexible” to come to a yoga class or know anything about the practice of yoga.  You have to have a willingness to have a go at something “new”.  We understand that making the decision come along to a class maybe somewhat daunting or intimidating – be reassured our teachers are highly qualified and passionate about Iyengar yoga and were all beginners once.

Do I bring anything?

All equipment you  will need is provided – however you can always bring your own mat.  You don’t need to bring a water bottle (as it is best not to drink during class) – there is water available for your convenience. However please let the teacher know if you have a medical condition which may necessary having water.

What do I wear?

Its best to wear clothing which won’t restrict your movement. eg yoga tights, shorts, t-shirt.  You don’t wear socks or shoes during the yoga practice.

How long before class can I come along to the studio?

The school will be open 15 minutes before each class for you to prepare for class.
Please be on time.

Its important –

  • To turn your mobile phone OFF on entering the yoga room.  However, if you have family concerns let the teacher know.
  • Not to eat a meal 2 – 3 hours before class.  However, something light would be agreeable.
  • To advise the teacher if you have any significant health problems,
  • OR if you are menstruating so that alternative poses can be suggested when necessary.

Please Note: If you are pregnant and haven’t done yoga before we are not able to take you into the class situation.  This stipulation is part of the Iyengar Yoga teaching guidelines.
