Class Levels

The school offers a range of classes to suit individual needs and are structured to enable all students to progress at their own pace.

Beginner Classes: Introduction to basic asanas – standing, sitting, twistings. Inversions – e.g. Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) are introduced along with restorative/recuperative asanas and basic breathing techniques. The classes are ongoing and students are welcome to join class at any time.

General Classes: Students of all levels are welcome, however it is beneficial to have some yoga experience by attending beginner classes. In these general classes there is a consolidation of basic yoga asanas with the introduction of more advanced inversions – Salamba Sirsasana (headstand), arm balances, backbends and basic pranayama. A commitment to ongoing practice and attendance at class is important to enable the student to progress and embrace the far reaching benefits that yoga can bring.

Experienced Classes:  These classes are for students with a long term commitment to Iyengar Yoga who may be interested in being challenged with more a intense practice and range of asanas than can be offered in a general class.  Familiarity and regular practice of all of the inversions and backbends essential.

Intensive Classes: Restricted to yoga practitioners with regular, long-term committed practice in Iyengar yoga.

Remedial: For people with medical and ongoing health concerns. Booking for these classes is essential as numbers are restricted.

Early Morning Courses: An early morning start is a great way to move your yoga practice to another level.  During the year early morning courses, usually for five days, are held. Students experience daily practice, consolidate their understanding of asana and are encouraged to investigate home practice.

Workshops: Workshops will be held throughout the year for experienced students and teachers.  They are usually held over a weekend or a weekend afternoon.

A pregnant woman who does not have an established yoga practice will not be accepted into class.

Regular practise of yoga can help you face the turmoil of life with
steadiness and stability.
